FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about ModuStrong frames, the dealer program and how projects work.

General

What is ModuStrong?

ModuStrong designs all-welded steel building frames, structural panel kits and industrial enclosures. They keep the modern look and speed of container construction but are designed as buildings from the start, and are supplied to builders, dealers and integrators who finish them on site.

Is ModuStrong taking orders?

ModuStrong is preparing its first production run and is accepting founding builders, dealers and integrators now. Tell us about your project through the contact page and we will follow up.

Is a ModuStrong frame a shipping container?

No. A ModuStrong frame is designed from the start to be a building. It keeps the look, strength and speed that people like about container homes, but it is 10 feet wide, uses new steel, has openings framed for standard doors and windows, and has a roof structure designed to carry a rooftop deck.

Who finishes the building on site?

Your own crew. The frame is designed for conventional trades: a local builder pours the slab, anchors the frame, and installs the envelope, insulation, electrical, plumbing and finishes using standard materials and methods.

How is a ModuStrong frame shipped?

By highway on a standard flatbed trailer. At 10 feet wide and 8 ft 6 in tall, a frame travels on a standard oversize permit, typically without escort vehicles in most US states.

Where are ModuStrong frames made?

In Northeast Mexico, in a steel-producing region about 120 miles from the Eagle Pass, Texas border crossing, so frames can reach Texas job sites by truck.

Dealers & builders

Do I need to be in Texas?

No. Texas is the first market because it is closest to where frames are fabricated, but builders and dealers in other US states are welcome to apply.

Is there a minimum order?

Volumes and delivery schedules are agreed with each founding partner based on their market and projects. Tell us what you expect to build in the next 12 months when you apply.

What does ModuStrong supply and what does the builder do?

ModuStrong supplies the steel frame, its accessories and the documentation to install them. The builder handles the foundation, permits, enclosure, MEP, finishes and the relationship with the end customer.

I already build container homes. Do I have to change my process?

Very little. You keep the modern, industrial look your customers want and skip the cutting, reinforcing and furring that a shipping container needs. A ModuStrong frame is also 10 feet wide instead of 8.

Homes & ADUs

Can I buy a ModuStrong home for my own lot?

ModuStrong supplies frames through builders and dealers, who handle the foundation, permits and finishing. Tell us where your lot is and we will let you know when a builder partner is available in your area.

Can a steel-frame home be comfortable in the Texas heat?

Yes. The frame is enclosed and insulated like any other house, using spray foam, batts or rigid insulation, and finished with drywall inside. It does not rely on bare steel walls the way a shipping container does.

Can the roof be used as a deck?

Yes. The roof structure is designed to carry a rooftop deck, and ModuStrong stairs and railings bolt to the frame.

Commercial

Can a ModuStrong building be used as a business open to the public?

Yes, once it is engineered, permitted and finished for that use. Commercial buildings must meet local requirements for occupancy, fire safety and accessibility, which the project's engineer and builder address for each site.

How large can a commercial building be?

One module gives 480 sq ft. Modules join side by side, so two give 960 sq ft and three give 1,440 sq ft, with open interiors between them.

Can the same model be built in several locations?

Yes. That is where a standard steel frame helps most: the same frame, openings and accessories can be repeated across locations, with each site engineered for its own conditions.

Industrial & energy

Can ModuStrong build enclosures to our drawings?

Yes. ModuStrong can fabricate to your drawings and specifications, co-design the enclosure around your equipment, or develop a repeatable enclosure family with configurable options.

Does ModuStrong do the electrical integration?

No. ModuStrong supplies the steel structure and envelope, prepared for your equipment, HVAC, ventilation and cable entries. Electrical and battery integration stays with the integrator or EPC.

Are ModuStrong enclosures certified for BESS?

Certification such as UL 9540 and UL 9540A, and installation rules such as NFPA 855, apply to the complete energy storage system and its installation, not to an empty enclosure. ModuStrong engineers the enclosure with the integrator to support the integrator's certification strategy and local code requirements.

Resilience & relief

Is a ModuStrong home hurricane-proof?

No building is storm-proof. A ModuStrong frame is engineered for the design wind speed of its site, and the walls, roof, windows and doors chosen for the envelope matter as much as the frame. In high-wind regions, the SafeHome configuration adds frame and anchorage capacity.

Does ModuStrong offer storm shelters or safe rooms?

Not yet. Storm shelters and safe rooms must be designed and tested to ICC 500 and FEMA P-361. They are in development and will only be offered once they meet those standards.

How quickly can relief units be deployed?

Units travel by highway as complete frames and are set on a prepared pad or foundation, so most of the work happens before they reach the site. Timing depends on the configuration, quantity and site conditions of each deployment.
